Luis Flores is a 19-year-old, second-year student at Imperial Valley College, who represented his school at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ 2009 convention in Puerto Rico on a fully paid scholarship following his first year at IVC.

Luis wants to study history at the University of California, Berkeley following his IVC studies.

He writes the wry College Cynic blog and has been published on Borderzine.com.

As a JRN101 student, Luis is covering the unique relationship between Calexico on the U.S. side of the border, and Mexicali on the Mexican side of the border.

“Unlike many border cities that share violence these days, Mexicali and Calexico share a more positive relationship,” Luis says.

During the JRN101 Fall 2009 semester, Luis produced a story on a local art exhibit.  View his story, “Young Imperial Valley Artists Offer an ‘Obscured Eye’”
